Daniel Noboa: Ecuador re-elects president with controversial approach to tackling gang crime
The 37-year-old president introduced a heavy-handed approach to drug gangs when he was first elected in 2023 – with the security forces later accused of carrying out extrajudicial killings. His opponent has rejected the result, claiming "grotesque" electoral fraud.
