French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday spoke at the UN Ocean Summit in the French Riviera city of Nice where he criticised plans by US President Donald Trump to fast-track deep-sea mining in international waters. It was “madness to launch predatory economic action that will disrupt the deep seabed, disrupt biodiversity, destroy it and release irrecoverable carbon sinks, when we know nothing about it,” Macron said.
