Australia will formally recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, centre-left Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Monday, adding that the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip had โgone beyond the worldโs worst fearsโ. The move risks putting Australia at odds with its longtime security partner the United States, which opposes the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.
